The 2009 CFOA 5-Man season will go down in the books as the season of change. Unlike years past, the 2009 season saw major changes to the game format and rulebook rather than the normal off-season tweaks. The new RaceTo format offered teams more games and was a bit more forgiving than the traditional 5-Man format. The format changes provided the CFOA with a new competitive direction and gave the teams that call the CFOA home, their first taste of the future of competitive paintball.
In 2009, D3 5-Man was home to some of the fiercest competition the CFOA has ever seen. Three teams seemed to battle it out for division supremacy at every event; Shokwave, Team Overkill Factory, & Carolina Lockdown fought it out at every event for top honors. Coming into Homecoming, each team had won at least one event in 2009. It seemed only fitting that those 3 teams were there to fight it out for one last time. In the end, Carolina Lockdown won the Homecoming event. Team Overkill Factory gave Lockdown all they wanted in finishing second for the event. Shokwave finalized a solid season by finishing third for the event.
The D4 finals at Homecoming were a battle of 3 the division's top ranked teams (Boss Factory, Hot Shot Kids, & Waste Management) and also featured a new up and coming team in Carolina Militia. When the smoke cleared, with season honors hanging in the balance, Hot Shot Kids won the Homecoming event title. Waste Management finished 2nd, with Boss Factory finishing 3rd.
D5 finals seemed a bit strange with the absence of Atomic Aftermath. After being on the podium for the entire season Aftermath picked a bad day to have a bad day. In their place the finals saw Hot Shot Kids Silver, Upstate Army, Devildogs & newcomers Upstate Army Too fight it out for the event honors. Devildogs ground it out for the win. Upstate Army Too debuted with an impressive 2nd place finish. Hot Shot Kids Silver finished in 3rd place.
